The co-pilot who was identified as Burchetta, was a 54 year old named Carranza Brabata of Mexico. Donations for Arlington

Leanne McCain’s husband, Bryant McCain died in  Afghanistan in November 2011. McCain had no idea of Wreaths Across America before the devastating moment in November of 2011.  McCain is now a very big supporter or of the organization, who puts wreaths on her husbands gravestone along with all his brothers that died with him on the battlefield before and after him.

Wreaths in Arlington

“There are so many people who don’t have any family or friends, especially the older veterans,” said McCain, of San Antonio, Texas. “For them to get a wreath at Christmas is incredible.”

With all the donations given this year Wreaths Across America will be able to cover almost half of the graves in Arlington Cemetery. Two weeks ago the group Wreaths Across America only had enough money for 95,000 wreaths at Arlington, far short of its goal of 135,000, said Amber Caron, Wreaths Across America spokeswoman. But news stories about the wreath shortage caused a flood of late donations.

“We ended up with more than our goal at Arlington, placing a little more than 143,000 wreaths there today,” Caron said Saturday. About 25,000 people braved the cold to participate, she said.”

The tradition started in 1992, when the company donated 5,000 wreaths. Caron said many people don’t realize the program is funded by donations, not the government.

Last year, more than 400,000 wreaths were donated — 100,000 to Arlington alone — and placed at cemeteries in all 50 states. This year about 540,000 wreaths were placed nationwide, Caron said.

Raise Minimum Wage

The United States have a minimum wage level implemented and every state has to pay their employees at least that much money.  The minimum wage for the United States right now is seven dollars and twenty-five cents.  Each state can raise their own minimum wage to whatever level that they would like.  The highest minimum wage for a state right now is Washington, which is at nine dollars and nine-teen cents.  Oregon is the closet to them at eight dollars and ninety-five cents.

workers-wages-vs[1]

I believe that seven dollars and twenty-five cents is not sufficient enough to live off of, making a little under fourteen thousand dollars a year at minimum wage before taxes being taken out is not enough money to support a family.  Making under fourteen thousand dollars a year before subtracting taxes may not be enough to support yourself as, after taxes you will have t pay bills for your house, car, electric and phone bill.  After all of the deductions you may have enough to barely get buy, but you probably can not buy too much extra things for yourself, or treat yourself out to dinner once in awhile.

I believe that the minimum wage should be raise three dollars from seven twenty-five cents per hour to ten dollars and twenty-five dollars per hour.  With this jump in pay people that receive the minimum wage for their pay would be making just under twenty thousand dollars a year and they can have a little more spending money for the extra things in life and maybe treat themselves to dinner once in awhile as well. They would also not have to worry every week or two weeks if they will have enough to pay their bills and have food on their table as well.

Stack Of Cash

There is a group that formed to try and raise the minimum wage, on their website they have their reason on why the minimum wage should be raised. Their reason why is:

With the worst recession in a generation still being felt across the nation, state and federal leaders are focused on getting their economies moving again while helping working families make ends meet.  Raising the minimum wage is a key strategy for doing both and should be part of an economic recovery agenda.  This briefing paper details the positive impact of raising the minimum wage – and indexing it to inflation so that it does not continue to fall in real value every year – on working families, local businesses and state economies.  By boosting pay in the low-wage jobs on which more families are relying than ever, a stronger minimum wage will help restore the consumer spending that powers our economy and that local businesses need in order to grow.   A robust minimum wage is a key building block of sustainable economic recovery.

Their main point of raising the minimum is based around how it is economically better for business and the United States economy more than it does individual people, but they do also back my point of how it would help people individually.

To the Moon in 2043?

It may seem a little far-fetched right now but it could become a reality if space companies like Virgin Galactic realize their aspirations over the next 30 years or so. Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic and his children are scheduled to travel in his company’s spaceship around the world in 2014. When the CEO, George Whitesides, he says that their ambitions are greater than sub-orbital flights.  Whitesides said that if they can make this work then it will open many opportunities.

One of the directions that might open up is high-speed point-to-point travel on Earth — so that you could go from London to Singapore in an hour or go from London to Los Angeles in a couple of hours.

Whitesides adds that they are   is focused on completing the test flight program in preparation for the passenger flights that he said Virgin Galactic aims to run on a weekly basis once the service is established. There are about 650 people that signed up for these flights according to Whitesides.

The search for Earth-like planets is clearly something that fascinates Whitesides too. He believes we will soon be able to detect seasons on other worlds. And he’s unlikely to have to wait until 2043 for his first taste of space adventure, having signed up for a seat in his company’s spaceship. I’m actually a customer as well, he said. My wife and I bought two tickets in 2005. I think it’s important that I fly because just as Richard’s flight is such an important signal to our customers that he believes in the system, similarly I need to do that as well.

3 Unknown Sports

Sporting events such as the NFL, MLB, and college basketball and football are some of the most watched TV shows.  These are some of the most well known sports as well along with soccer and basketball.  There are many sports played around the world that people do not exist or they do, but they do not know much about the sport. Sports like cricket, curling, and squash are some of the sports that make the list of being “unknown” sports.

Cricket:

Cricket is similar to baseball in the way that the game is played.  Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of 11 players on a field at the center of which is a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. Each team takes it in turn to bat, attempting to score runs, while the other team fields. Each turn is known as an innings. The bowler  or the pitcher delivers the ball to the batsman or batter who attempts to hit the ball with his bat far enough for him to run to the other end of the pitch and score a run. Each batsman continues batting until he is out. The batting team continues batting until ten batsmen are out, at which point the teams switch roles and the fielding team comes in to bat.

Curling:

Curling is a sport in which players slide stones across a sheet of ice towards a target area which is segmented into four rings.  Two teams, each of four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called “rocks”, across the ice curling sheet towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a game; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the center of the house at the conclusion of each end, which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones. A game may consist of ten or eight ends. The curler can induce a curved path by causing the stone to slowly turn as it slides, and the path of the rock may be further influenced by two sweepers with brooms who accompany it as it slides down the sheet, using the brooms to alter the state of the ice in front of the stone. A great deal of strategy and teamwork goes into choosing the ideal path and placement of a stone for each situation, and the skills of the curlers determine how close to the desired result the stone will achieve.

Squash:

Squash is a racket sport played by two (singles) or four players (doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. The players must alternate in striking the ball with their racket and hit the ball onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The game was formerly called squash rackets, a reference to the “squashable” soft ball used in the game. Squash is recognized by the IOC and supporters are lobbying for its incorporation in a future Olympic program.

Bear Attacks Old Woman

Susan Chalfant, who is 54 years old, lives in Orlando, Florida. The reason that this random 54 year old woman is relevant to the recent news is because she was mauled by a bear while walking her on Tuesday, December 4th. Florida Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Karen Parker said that police  are not ready to call the case a bear “attack” because it’s not clear what led up to the incident. In the 911 call, the women’s neighbor said that she thought the attack was by a bear, but she was not sure what the attack was by.  The neighbor also couldn’t decipher how the woman who got attacked was because she was too bloodied to tell. The spokesperson said:

“Bears are very, very elusive. They’re pretty much more afraid of you than you are of them, and normally when they see a human and they’ve not been fed and have not been habituated — they’re going to run away. They don’t want to encounter us any more than we want to encounter them.”

This quote is what makes the whole situation weird because the officials do not know if the bear was tempted to attack or he just randomly attacked the 54 year old woman from Orlando.

A bear!!!!

Random Stories

Story 1:

At least nineteen people were killed in explosions and shootings in Iraq.  Forty-three others were injured in the explosions and shootings. This is the deadliest incident since  al-Sadriya outdoor commercial market in central Baghdad, when a hidden bomb killed twenty-five people.

Flag_of_Iraq

I think it is stupid that people have to shoot and explode people up randomly. They really have no reason to do so and if they do think they have a reason they are cray-cray.

Story 2:

Harrisburg religious organization is demanding that the county let it serve the  homeless after the ministry was kicked off public property for doing so earlier  this year. Attorneys sent a demand letter requesting that the ministry does not carry out religious activities.
untitled

This is really stupid if the ministry wants to help homeless people they have every right too. The county has to their crap together. This is almost unconstitutional, we have the freedom of religion.

Story 3:

A mother of a Florida girl is suing for her daughter taking her own life. The mom says that she jumped to her own death because she was being cyber bullied. Authorities said Rebecca killed herself after months of cyber bullying from fellow students.

untitled1

I feel that it is both sides fault for her death. It is the people who bullied her faults for bullying her because that should not be tolerated. But it is also the girl’s fault because she didn’t just ignore what they were saying.
